Attackers are taking over WhatsApp accounts by tricking people into sharing verification codes or linking a malicious device. Once inside, attackers can impersonate you and access your conversations and contacts.

Anyone who uses WhatsApp is at risk, especially those who receive unexpected messages asking them to confirm codes or link devices.
What to Watch For
Watch for messages that ask you to share a verification code, prompts to link a device you didn’t request, unexpected sign-out or sign-in notifications, or friends saying they received odd messages from you.
What to Do
Open WhatsApp and click on “You” in the bottom-right corner. Go to Account and click “Two-step verification” to add a PIN to your account.
